Why Unilever is supporting the Big Innovation Centre
"Unilever's origins lie in the Lever Brothers business created by William Hesketh Lever in the 1890s in the north-west of England. Thus Unilever has had continuous operations for over a century in Britain and so has deep roots in the nation. Britain houses a significant portion of Unilever's innovation infrastructure, notably two major R&D centres in Bedfordshire and the Wirral, Unilever's corporate office on the Embankment in London, which houses many of the brand and category innovation teams, and Unilever's corporate venturing arm and new business unit. It is still from Britain that many of Unilever's global innovations are sourced.
Increasingly, Unilever is using the concepts of open innovation to build bigger, better faster innovations that can be deployed globally. Given the longstanding and deep roots of the company in Britain, Unilever is keen to see the development of an innovation ecosystem that can lead both to a more prosperous nation and that can be a stronger source of innovation and enterprise for its global operations."
